Hesitating

Was it dumb to say I love you,
When we had our first kiss?
Because you didn't return it,
but kept kissing my lips.

When I stopped kissing you,
You looked at me funny.
"Be honest to me, please,
Do you love me honey?"

You gave me a look,
Like you didn't know.
I felt tears swelling,
I had to go.

But you pulled on my arm,
and said "of course I do.
I will now and forever
Always love you."

I replied "but you hesitated,
As though you weren't sure."
You stared in my eyes and replied,
"You love me, but I love you more."
