The End

by squirttt   Jun 28, 2005

The lights flickered through the storm,
voices grew to whispers as a new fate was born.
I cried and asked for him to stay.
“Won’t you stay for the closure to this play?”
He looked at me with sighs
with those dark cold eyes
He shook his head and turned around
But I stopped him with not a sound
My heartbeat quickened
eyes tear stricken
“Make this easy,” he said softly.
I nodded and bowed
paid my respect to the crowd
“I’m sorry for all the pain.
For the love we couldn’t maintain.”
He closed his eyes and prayed
prayed this day would fade away.
“Are you done?” he asked and I was stunned.
“I’ll always love you,” he looked to bid adieu.
My soul cried, my heart broke.
I tried to catch my breath as I choked.
“I love you now, I’ll love you always,
all the past and coming days.
Reach for me when times get rough
I’ll be there, sure enough.
Turn to me when you can’t cope
I’ll be there to give you hope.
Never more will you cry,
Your tears will dry with this goodbye.”
I got up, kissed him goodnight
turned around and blew out the light.
I stepped outside, left him to think,
wiped my eyes as I blinked.
“Remember the good times,
our memories left behind.”
I walked away and whispered,
Closed my eyes to wonder.
“Remember our days and their glory,
this is the closure to our story.”
