Waves

by Annabelle Lim   Jun 29, 2005

I am dreaming, yes I must be
This is not real, I said to me
Waves are never this wide and high in reality
Like a building of one hundred storey

I am right, for the nth time, I am
I was awaken by an imaginary slam
Just as the wave is about to devour me
I woke up before it can engulf me

I sat up and looked around
Nobody’s there, no one I found
No one to hold me, nobody came
But I am alright, everything’s the same

For a sen-night I had that same dream
Waves appear out of nowhere, it seem
At first they terrified me, the waves scared me so
Now I’d say they’re telling me things I need know

Time passed then one night I had a similar dream
A wave not from the ocean but from a stream
Strangely so, this time, one came and stood from behind me
The wave did not possess me, but it did hit me, then set me free

Often times I wonder what these waves could mean
Do they signify difficulties and suffering?
If so, I pray, that I’d be able to withstand them
I will, for the wave did not devour me in my dream
