We decided to head to the park after eating dinner.
Though long past, we relived our childhood,
laughing and racing around the not-so-large plastic fortress.

I saw you.
Your hair short around your face
Your chin set stubbornly
Your lips turned up into a grin.

You turned and ran for the slide,
laughing and throwing your arms up into the cool summer evening sky.

I giggled and raced after you,
squeaking and squealing for you to
Wait, wait for me.

You endulge me,
as you always have,
and we go down the two part slide
Together.

Your face lights up when we get to the bottom,
not just with happiness.
We turn our heads towards the source of the light
and,
to our delight,
there are fireworks being set off in the parking lot of the park.

We skip over and sit down to watch
and I grab your hand and give it a happy squeeze.
As we sit back to back
and watch the beautiful fire rain down around us.
Best friends forever.
Promise?
