I thought we'd always be friends

I wish i could go back to the old days,
we were just little girls, laughing and playing our lives away,
when skinned knees were easier to mend, than broken hearts,
because a band-aid could cure one, while the other still fell apart,
when boys still had cooties, and we did not dare go near them,
but now we can't keep away, because we always have to have a boyfriend,
dollies, stuffed animals, Barbie's, and dress up,
silly little friends, and little to screw up,
when the tooth fairy, Santa clause and the easter bunny all seemed so real,
and when we found out there was no such thing, we didn't know how to feel,
the times we had the most fun was when we were little girls,
hopscotch, jump rope, hide and seek, playing games, without a care in the world.

we said we would be best friends forever, not knowing that, that would change,
because when we made it to middle school, our social status did range,
you were popular, then as are you know, while I have changed greatly, from a nobody, to a rocker girl,
i see you in the halls you still remember my name, which really surprises me,
but all you can manage to say is hey,
so i guess you don't remember all the good days.
