Family Day

There was a little girl
A long time ago
She was so very cute
With her hair tied in a bow

She was really excited
As her aunt helped put on her dress
She could not wait to get to school
Her class she would impress

Today was family day at school
And she wanted to bring her father
But see, she could not
So instead, she brought what he taught her

She got in the car
And buckled her seat belt
She knew everything she would say
And everything she felt

She got to school and sat in her chair
Listened quietly to everyone's guest
But inside she knew, she hoped
That hers would be the best

Her teacher called her name
So she walked up front
She looked at her aunt smiling
And debated on being blunt

"Hello everyone, Good morning"
She started to say
"I brought someone different
With me today

Today my daddy
Is here with me
But its hard to understand
Because him, you can not see."

She looked around
And saw everyone stare
She took a deep breath
And said a quick prayer

"You see... my daddy was a cop
And he died this past year
The other cops tell me he is a hero
Because he died by fighting his fear

My daddy was scared
Of ever shooting someone
He said it was wrong
But got over it one day, and help up his gun"

She looked around to her aunt
Who had tears streaming down her face
She guessed her aunt had wished
That she was in another place

"But that is okay
My daddy is still here
He has keeping an eye out for me
And has been all year

Just because you can not see him
Does not mean a thing
To me, he is as real
As when I hear a phone ring

My daddy would be here
If he could, I know - but you see
Heaven is just to far to tracel for him
But his spirit is standing right beside me."

The little girl put her hand
On her heart
She closed her eyes
And saw a brand new start

"When I close my eyes
It's Daddy I see
Can you see him too?
Come on, try with me"

The words were said so very soft
But the message was clear
As she looked around eyes were closed
The end to her speech was near

With her eyes shut tight
She began to say
"See?" she smiled
"My daddy is here today

I love my daddy so very much
He has loved me from the start
So, now and forever and ever
He holds onto my heart

The little girl sat down
In her cute little dress
Little did she know
Because of what she said....
