Can we be?

by **champagne**   Jul 11, 2005

I love you means nothing
when its uttered by a boy
they say it to their cars!
and you're not some living toy
it only means something
when it comes from the heart
the one in your chest!
not that...other "part"
in any language
it all means the same
its like a form of bondage
minus the pain
it connects you, controls you and brightens yr smile
it shortens and lessens and contracts the miles
no road is too long
for you to meet in the middle
no rhyme is too silly
you can solve any riddle
no chair is too small
you were born to melt together
no fight is too stormy
you can survive any weather
"i love you" is a phrase
that has no meaning alone
it needs to be accompanied
by an action that can be shown
like a light that can shine across any darkened bay
or a rose that can live, all the time, every day
if i hear "i love you" i cringe and i sigh
don't say it-u don't mean it
and neither do i
instead build up to it
with a subtle,thrown in note
like "you do it for me" , "what other girl?" or "damn, you float my boat"
or perhaps instead
to show that its real
say something new
to prove how you feel
"i cherish you", "you're everything i look for" or maybe just "can we be?"
thats what i want to hear
thats how he got me...
