The Hands of Humankind

by Carlee Ann   Jul 19, 2005

The hands of humankind
A simple subject for you
It, they seem harmless
But think of all they do

Hands that hold a blade to cut
Or that fatally hold a gun
Shaking as they write goodbyes
And only death is won

Hands that hold a bottle
Drinking away life sadly
They can't hold enough of it
And things end so badly

Hands that beat their families
They show no love or mercy
And nothing hurts or scars you more
I know, it has happened to me

Hands that hold down women
And force them into sin
Then murder without remorse
And women are angels again

Hands that never hold
That don't hug their child
Lack of love and lack of trust
A motherhood defiled

Hands that steal away things
Whether it be a child or a stereo
They snatch away what isn't theirs
And the greed simply grows

Not all hands do all this
But yet they sin each day
How did we take hands, God's gift
And lead them so astray?

Hands hold with others
And baptize in our Lord
They write what's in our souls
And do more than enough

How can something so grand
Commit such evil crimes?
Things so hard and so sad
That just can't heal with time

I can't look at mine the same
Just thinking of things hands do
No matter how bad it gets,
Never let your hands take over you.
