My only foe

by Arkon   Jul 19, 2005

It started off good, no rain or clouds only sunshine.
I hurled out of bed into my clothes and dashed out the door.
I didn't know that later that night I'd be on that floor.
As I looked for the keys to the car I escaped death from afar.
Without knowing the tank was half full, I twisted the ignition and the stick shift I pulled.
A day of work that ends in a home I can't afford.
A rainy, dark, star-lit trip to the hospital ward.
If there were something to let me know you were there,
We wouldn't have colided on that night's moist air.
I couldn't have been warned for the ride to the hospital told
That today was my time to go and I swerved and slammed into the pole.
Gimme the excuses, Gimme that chill, Gimme sympathy for the other was killed.
That very night you took my life, I had it coming, I know
You were the only one, my only undefeatable foe.
I'd run from you, never could, but I always have wanted to...
My family would have died, it was something I cannot do.
For that person was me and I couldn't stay true...
But you caught me off guard, I suspected I was fine, I never thought that I'd miss your signs.
