The Elements (Fear Of)

by Pete   Jul 20, 2005

Fire, glowing red cinders, black ash
destructive, constructive, like a double
edged sword. Heat providing, light giving,
and energy releaser. So many wonderful things
and yet we fear the sound of the fire bell...

Earth, deep, solid ground. Mud, rock, sand
and soil. Onion like layers with life
teeming from inside. Homes on it, homes
in it, homes beneath it. Provides stable foundations,
and yet we fear it when it moves...

Wind, howls and wails. The sound of chimes
and leaves falling to the ground as trees sway.
Cools us in heat, carries boats along. Provides
electricity for our luxuries. Many useful things,
and yet we fear when a strong one comes...

Water, wet, splish, splash. The basic necessity for life
so uncomplicated but with so many different uses.
We swim in it, wash ourselves with it, and
drink it. We all need to find water,
and yet we fear it when it floods to us...

Nature, underestimated power, power to give, power to take away...

^ As do I...no need for all the rhyming as long as it flows well enough...

    Lovely poem...very descriptive/creative and meaningful.
