Sonnet for the rain

by keri   Jul 22, 2005

Shall I tell thee of the soft, quiet rain?
That comes in the mist covering the land.
Clear drops wash away our sorrow and pain.
From heaven they fall like grains of sand.
Rain comes when it wants, rain leaves when it wants.
Who ought to stop it but thy mighty God?
Can come twice in a day, or only once,
Clears away the paths of where I had trod.
Oh rain, come kiss us with cool gentle lips,
And free my soul like a bird from a cage.
Falls in showers or only in drips.
Those who observe rain find wisdom like sage.
Rain's tunes more lovely than that of a fife.
Rain's the symbol of freedom and new life
