My Reality

by AnotherJournalEntry   Jul 31, 2005

People are always saying I don't know
Anything about life, and yeah I'm young
So maybe I don't, but what I do know is
That I see a lot of stuff every day.

I see stuff that I shouldn't even know about.
I see stuff my parents don't want me to see.
I see the same stuff as adults do every day.
I don't want to, but I do anyway.

All the drugs, sex, alcohol, and abuse,
The rape, pain, love, and loss.
I see more than a kid my age should,
But I get by, and they don't know what I do.

I know people who have gone through so much
I've gone through a lot too, but so what?
My parents don't want me to see this stuff,
But they can't control what happens to others.

I'm learning to live with it, all of it.
I can get through each day without breaking down,
They just don't get it, all that is a reality.
A reality for my friends, and a reality for me.

Life happens, and with it comes pain.
You just have to learn to deal with it.
Everything isn't sheltered anymore,
These things happen to ordinary people.

They can happen to a 77 year old,
Or to a 10-year-old, but there is no difference.
I know more than a 14-year-old girl should,
But it's what happens, it's a reality.
