Underneath

by Falling Up   Aug 15, 2005

The past became our strongest memory,
While tears and pain, thought to be left behind.
We still have one foot in the past,
And the other in the future to remind us,
How tears shifted to smiles, and laughter of the fun times
While hate and anger showed through from the bad times.
Into your eyes like open doors I did’t need the key.
I could see through you, freely unwanted.
Too bad I tried to move on,
My last piece broke in half,
To incomplete what perfection I lacked.
Prison, I locked myself in,
With the key to my heart thrown into the ocean,
Where everything will be lost with no hope of forgiveness.
But envy of where it will be found, while the world is still moving.
Deeds unwanted, will be stepped over and buried in the sand.
The future continues, but frozen again,
When the tide of the past uncovers,
And brings up what we thought would stay beneath us.
Darkness is their light, and shifts their swords towards|_To protrude the truth of the innocence gone,
To beat all hope of forgetting,
The envy of the past brought up.
Quiet, all is still in time, but never lost.
The battle of the darkness overtakes you, but only in your thoughts.
Your light shows through the empty holes they’ve helped to dig.
You can fill them with envy,
But only if the tide stays low.
Bury their swords, and forget how to not live, and live,
For the glass is half empty, and the dark turned on,
Will be overtaken, by your light of hope,
And how your sword shows through your eyes.
