The Voice

I heard a voice calling, so I struggled to hear.
This voice, I heard pulled at my heart, not at my ears.
I hear whispers of mercy and echoes of love.
Still, I didn't recognize the great voice from above.

"Remember me, son" but I couldn't realize the hope.
For my mind was clouded by all the dope.
"This is you Father," but his voice I didn't hear.
Since my senses were numbed by the beer.
He said "Peace and mercy" but he just couldn't get through.
All my anger and bitterness obstructed my view.
He promised, "My grace is sufficient, let me guide your way."
But if he only knew how much I had stolen today.

i feared his love and forgiveness had come to an end.
So, I forgot him, failed him, and turned back to sin.
His voice kept calling me but was slowly fading away.
Because of the stupid things I let get in the way.
Even though, I feel I've strayed too far to return.
He still promises forgiveness, in a voice of concern.

All of a sudden his grace came crashing in.
My senses became totally clear once again.
My eyes were wide open, my ears were alert.
What I heard and saw caused my heart to hurt.

It hit me like thunder when I saw that man.
My sins like a hammer drove nails in his hands.
I watched at my sins were forgotten and lost.
As he took my place high upon that wooden cross.
I saw all the compassion that poured from his eyes.
His tears mixed with blood and fell to his side.

I heard his voice calling, so I fell to my knees.
I prayed "Lord Jesus please have mercy on me."
"I don't know how much more of my sins, you can stand."
"Please forgive this defeated and broken hearted man."
"I feel like I have reached the end of my rope."
"Your love filled sacrifice has restored my hope."
"I heard your voice calling straight to my heart."
"Now with you in my life, I am given a glorious new start."

I heard his voice answering "Child welcome to your home."
"Another of my sheep has returned to my fields to roam."
So if you hear a voice calling, believe he'll always be there.
