Deadly Walk

by Ms Joanna Dark   Aug 22, 2005

Walking down the street,
Watching cars drive in line.
And for that moment in time,
Everything is fine.

Suddenly it all turns bad,
As things usually go.
Two cars about to collide,
Everything moves so slow.

The cars try to stop,
But they only fail.
And as they crash,
They leave a bloodly trail.

A body through the windshield,
They most certainly are dead.
Another lays motionless,
Blood pouring from their head.

In the other car,
A baby loudly screams.
Scared for its life,
Awoken from its dreams.

The mother is not moving,
But the father seems okay.
He slowly leaves the car,
Looks around, not knowing what to say.

He reaches into the car,
Pulls out the screaming child.
Takes the baby away from the scene,
Where two bloody cars are piled.

He hands the baby to a stranger,
Who was watching from the side.
Saw the whole thing happen,
And watched the cars collide.

Heading back to the mangled car,
Where inside lies his wife.
Grabbing her hand from her seat,
He doesn't feel any life.

Tears pour from his eyes,
As he slowly drops her hand.
Looking at the other car,
He begins to understand.

The people inside are dead,
Never to live again.
His drinking and driving,
Caused this terrible end.

The police cars pull up,
Sirens going and flashing lights.
If only he could go back,
He would've made all this right.

They check the people laying still,
To find they're just too late.
The man is in disbelief,
Himself, he's starting to hate.

He killed his loving wife,
And two people he didn't know.
The police came with handcuffs,
Said to jail he was to go.

His baby still with a stranger,
He can still hear it cry.
Not knowing what has happened,
Or that daddy made people die.

The car drives away,
While mommy lays dead.
People around are whispering,
And sadly shaking their heads.

As I watch from the sides,
Of where this all occured.
I can't imagine the pain,
It all seems too absurd.

An innocent baby and its dad,
Are the only ones to walk away.
But the father can't escape,
Because over and over it replays.

I slowly walk away from it all,
Knowing there is nothing I can do.
As for the people in the other car,
They were people that I knew.

Both were friends of mine,
And had just finished school.
Moments before, they had left my house,
Looking for a fun day at the pool.

And although they did nothing wrong,
They were forced to pay with their lives.
While the man who killed them all,
Goes to jail and survives.
