What do your toys do?

by Cait   Aug 23, 2005

When you leave for school,
and your bedroom's empty,
and no one's looking,
what do your toys do?

Do they come alive,
and interact with each other?
Is the blonde Barbie doll
the object of Ken's affection?

Is the stuffed teddy bear,
passed down through generations,
the respected wise man,
to whom the other toys come for help?

Is the jack-in-the-box
the funny-man?
Is he the joker in the back of class
with orange, spiky hair?

Or do the toys
stay inanimate?
Do they sit around all day
staring with their black eyes?

Is Barbie just plastic
and teddy bear just stuffing?
Is jack-in-the-box just a spring?
Just products of Mattel?

When you come home,
and re-enter your room,
they look just as they did before,
waiting for you.

When I first started reading I won't lie I was like what the hell is this...but I LOVE IT! So creative and unique. I love the way it flowed without rhyme. I love reading stuff like this...people stepping outside of the 'norm' and writing of something so different. I like how you compared the old teddy bar to an old wise man...the jack to a class clown....very good comparison....What a wonderful write... Very nicely done!!! :)
