Cherry Red

by k i k i   Aug 27, 2005

Scraping, peeling back the skin,
To only find more flesh and bone.
Slits in the wrong direction,
A smear with no straight shape.
An atlas to my soul,
So confused, not even I know.

Crying so deeply,
I want to fly away.
Ascend above all, I forget you,
All that was said, inside of me.
Cuts and abrasives exist with alarm and denial,
Searching for the moment that I can smile.

Snaring at the image of you standing there,
With me in the picture too.
I thought this friendship could last,
Language that was barely whispered.
My eyes cherry with fright,
Same as the scars as they persist to bleed.
