“You dunno what it’s like, to go through what I do!”
She kept screamin at her mom, til her face had turned blue.

She left the house mad, as she stormed out the door,
She’d never left without saying “I love you,” before.

She went through the day, tryin to hold back the tears,
She’d never fought with her mom, like this in her years.

She had plans with her boyfriend, that night after work,
But he called her and cancelled, he was drunk and a jerk.

Her and her mom’s fight, kept running through her head,
She remembered how it started, and wished to change what she’d said.

She came home the night before, after curfew time was set,
As she snuck through the window, her mom she quickly met.

She had been with “that boy”, as her mom would always say,
As 12 o’clock struck, her mom knelt down to pray.

“Please keep my baby safe, O Lord how much I love her,”
“But it’s time to stand my ground, and be my baby’s mother.”

She felt guilty as she sat there, at her desk and wondered why,
She treated her mom so badly, and then a tear fell from her eye.

She picked up the phone, and held onto it tight,
It was time to call her mom, say sorry and make it right.

As she started to dial, her phone began to flash,
The police were on the line, her mom was in a crash.

She didn’t understand, they had to have the wrong person,
The last words to her mom were swearin and cursin.

“My mama’s strong,” she said, ”She’ll be okay.”
But the cop wasn’t done, with what he had to say.

“Honey we’re so sorry, but your mama…well she died.”
“She was hit by a drunk,” the cop said as he sighed.

The girl was too shocked, to move or even speak,
“Who was the drunk?” she asked, her voice had turned weak.

He told the driver’s name, with regret in his voice,
You see it was her boyfriend, the cop had no other choice.

She broke down and cried, she couldn’t stop a single tear,
“He’d kill someone while drunk,” was her mama’s only fear.

And now he’d killed her…there was nothing she could do,
She left this wicked world, without hearing “I love you.”

All because her daughter, who thought she knew it all,
Was a little too late, with her “Sorry,” phone call.

Now she has to live with, all the guilt built up inside,
Cause she didn’t say “I love you,” on the day her mother died.
