The Call

by Jesi   Oct 31, 2006

He remembers as a boy, at the age of sixteen,
How he never had a purpose, how he never had a dream.

Just wanting to be accepted, by his friends and by his peers,
Now left with regrets, of wasted time all those years.

Caught up in the drinking, drugs and gangs of his day,
He rejected the truth, when he was shown a better way.

He built a wall up inside, so no one would know,
The way that he felt, he didnt want it to show.

Hate and unforgiveness, is what he bottled up inside,
Angry at the world, his heart was full of pride.

He never forgave, some people in his life,
And then he would wonder, what always caused him strife.

He knew what was right, but he was scared to let go,
Of the things of his past, scared to let the new him show.

Scared of friends and family, and what theyd have to say,
Scared to start a new life, to leave the past and turn away.

But he knew in his heart, that life had to offer more,
He was tired of being angry, and asking questions like, What for?

He was tired of the emptiness, he felt deep down inside,
Tired of the guilt, and silent tears that he had cried.

Now he had two choices, he could live or he could die,
As he made his decision, he started to cry.

He decided it wasnt worth it, to finish out his life,
He couldnt stand the pressure, or put up with all the strife.

But God sent him an angel, to him she was best friend,
God prompted her to call, so his life he wouldnt end.

As he reached for the gun, the phone began to ring,
His best friend was on the line, she told him everything.

He decided not to answer, he didnt want to say goodbye,
But the phone rang again, as she gave another try.

This time he decided, that he should answer her call,
Shed always been there for him, through hard times and through it all.

He pushed the button to answer, and he just sat there on the line,
She asked Are you ok?, and he assured her he was fine.

And in a tone of love she said, I thought of you today,
I was just calling to check in, and make sure that youre ok.

At that moment he felt, the love of his friend,
He knew for a fact, shed be there til the end.

He broke down and cried, and told her his plan,
The plan to take his life, he didnt think shed understand.

But she didnt get mad or yell, she said, I think I have the cure,
He was shocked at her response and asked, Well are you really sure?

She said Let me introduce you, to a very good friend of mine,
You see his name is Jesus, I met him when I was nine.

When my mom and dad divorced, my world was up-side-down,
But Jesus gave me hope, gave me a reason not to frown.

He told me that He loved me, no matter what Id done,
Jesus put His arm around me, He said to stay and not to run.

Since that conversation, he was never the same boy,
He decided to meet this Jesus, and his life was filled with joy.

Sure he had his struggles, and problems came his way,
But he knew Jesus would fight for him, each and every day.

He gave up all his habits, he turned away from all his past,
His heart was full of love, and forgiveness that would last.

His friends and family knew the change, was sent from up above,
Because this boy once full of hate, was now just full of love.

Years went by and he grew up, and married his best friend,
The one that called that night, and said shed be there til the end.

Now he remembers as a boy, at the age of sixteen,
How his life was changed forever, now had purpose and a dream.
