The Game

by AloneInaCrowd   Sep 3, 2005

The game we played was dangerous
Neither of us would accept defeat:
He feigned indifference
I exacerbated his patience by glibly cutting him down.
His jaw clenched in an honest attempt to keep his temper in check
I relentlessly persisted: determined to get a reaction
His ice-blue eyes pierced my own
As he softly spoke the words
Like daggers through my unprotected heart
I turned silently away.
