I knew

by Wolf   Sep 4, 2005

One evening I dared.
To call a person I cherished
I asked if you and I could go out
As friends nothing more, at least those were the words.

You agreed much to my surprise.
To dinner at a place that served Chinese.
The food was good.
We laughed and talked for hours it seemed.

With dinner done, I paid the bill.
We walked to my car, to take you home.
I mentioned a movie, you made me split it.
Captain Ron was what we saw, sharing popcorn..

As night came on I drove you home.
On your front porch we stood.
I confessed my deception, for a friend is not what I wanted
You replied, I know.

You asked if I would come in.
I heard the tone, the shot was there.
I froze with fear.
This was not expected.

I made some excuse
I had to get home.
I hugged you close and said I would call
I walked away, wondering why I did not kiss you.

You are married now to someone else
I too found a person to wed
But the heart will not let me forget.
Those words, I know

I think it's a good poem. I like the story and the way you tell it. You could have made it rhyme which would have made the flow better, but then again I like the unique style you've written it in. Nice work =D
