Poet Royalty

by Helga Ross   Sep 13, 2005

We see ourselves as poet kings and queens;
we watch us watch his highness kiss her hand
and lively flirts and curtsies set the scenes
which fan our works as flatteries command.

We're royalty's real and throne pretenders;
some so acclaimed, some awaiting legends;
though few titles deigned have no defenders
and who's who depends on audience trends.

A cinder-princess slippered servant girl;
her Kelly-graced castle's fairytale sphere;
frog-of-a-prince of enchantment's unfurl;
a Shepherd boy a Goliath should fear.

We write our realities making myth:
Monarchies those YOU identify with.
