Paid the Cost

by AloneInaCrowd   Oct 8, 2005

I lay awake, the teardrops fall,
You're fading fast, I've lost it all.
Reflections of a pain so deep
Which mars my days and haunts my sleep.
In my mind is etched your face
But you have gone without a trace
What once was freshly new and sweet
Has tumbled lamely at my feet.
I feel betrayed and somehow lost
Again, for love I've paid the cost.
Drifting, lonely, aimlessly
With no desire to be me.
I'm dead inside and so I pray
The Lord will take my soul away
Up where no one steals one's heart
Up where pain can now depart
Safe and free from love's dark charms
Comforted in my Savior's arms.
