Absent Mother

by Lyn   Oct 13, 2005

Don't cry baby, it will be
Though your mother's gone away
She couldn't stay
What will she do
Without you, little child,
Thinking of you when you smiled
At her, and gave her all
In trusting childlike innocence.
She will have to build a wall
Around her heart,
Set herself apart
From true emotion,
Never feeling, 'til the day
The wall falls, and then ...
Perhaps she'll cry again.
Can she live within herself
Building upon sorrowed grief
Trying hard to find relief
From self-inflicted wounds
All the hurts that still remain
Perhaps ..... she'll cry again.
