Camp Poem

by Daniel Jimenez   Oct 16, 2005

(I wrote this while on a 3 day Church camp retreat away from my love)

I write you this crossed legged on the floor
in my cold camp cabin at night.
The air is crisp and chilly
and the stars are all out in sight.

The sky is dark outside my love
no sounds can be heard from where I lay.
No stirring leaves or creaking branches,
silence ushers in a brand new day.

I am surrounded by mother nature
and all the beauty that she wields,
from the swaying trees to her majestic mountains,
her open valleys and fruitful fields.

But alas no matter where I am
and no matter what beauty is before my eyes.
I can not will not shall not stop
thinking about my lovely Laura Lai.

Your beauty is far above all this
and nothing can ever compete
to your gentle smile, your eyes and laugh
that always make life so much more sweet!
