Our strongest emotion

by ShadowDancer   Oct 17, 2005

Emotions
Part of us all
But which is the strongest?

Anger?
That red tide that robs us
Of all rational thinking
And can cause such grief?
Anger is like lightning
Deadly when striking
But burnt out in a flash

Joy?
A light in the dark, a flash of hope
That like anger is short lived
One is said to be able
To find true joy
But is not joy nothing
But the ignorance of reality?

Hate?
Hate, the rush of coldness
That runs to our brains
And leaves us gasping
The heat that runs down our limbs
Scorching all in its path
Before burning out, leaving a shell?

Love?
Love, the sweetest of all
And yet too often contains
The bitterest centre
Love is said to be forever
But can be washed away
As easily as sand on a beach

Sadness?
Sadness, the most despised
Sadness, the most feared
The emotion people deny
Sadness can take years, a lifetime
To put aside, to overcome
All face sadness

And so it is that sadness
An emotion that may be born of
Love
Anger
Hate
Even joy
Can be strong enough to overturn
And overrule
All other emotions

Original indeed! I never read a poem where somebody was laying out a list of emotions and explaining them.
