The Town

by A Former Outcast   Oct 23, 2005

The vehicles pull up to the small town
And the commander looks at it with a frown
Then he orders the others to drive in
And scout out the poverty within

As they drive through the streets
The wails of the grieving are all that greets
As they reach main street the people look on with hate
At these invaders from the greedy United States

Yet none of the men are really greedy
Most are from the ranks of the poor and needy
And most signed up to conquer the unknown
In order to feed families at home

As these men reach the main square
People protecting their homes fight in despair
The people are stopped quickly and coldly
As the soldiers roll over them boldly

The town is conquered, the people surrender
To the great American oppressor
And yet another town hits the sack
In the mess that is Iraq.
