Drifted

by Tarikins   Oct 23, 2005

"We'll be together for ever,"
You said one night.
And you did everything to prove it right.
"No we wont," I replied.
In my heart I knew.
Someday I'd be losing you.

"How can you say that?"
You'd ask and I wouldn't say.
Dreading each passing day.
Asking why love had to be this way.
"Because there will be a day..."
I whispered. "When we just drift away"

The truth is so hard to take.
That you wont be there when I wake.
I pushed you away
But inside I wanted you to stay.
"Love is like a sickness!"
I screamed at the photograph of us.

Years have past.
And we never did last.
You have a wife and kids.
A job and friends.
"There is never a cure..."
You whisper throwing away our old photographs.
