Conditional

by williamcampbell   Oct 28, 2005

I remember when I was young,
About fifteen years back.
I heard of a word,
The definition I lacked.

The word was unconditional,
And it was used to speak of love.
I wanted the definition,
So my mom I bugged.

I asked her of this
Strange new word,
What it meant,
And this is what I heard.

Unconditional, ok
Well here it is.
Its a love that has
No boundaries.

It is a love that doesnt
Look at ones sins.
But it looks into the soul,
Deep within.

It doesnt say do this or that,
And I will love you.
It says I will Love you,
No matter what you do.

I liked this answer,
It sounded nice,
I took it to heart,
Now I pay the price.

For the very same people,
Family and friends.
Have now put me,
On defense.

I got into trouble,
And I know how to get out.
But they say if you do that,
You will be cast out.

Now I think back to that day,
And think was she serious.
If love is unconditional,
Why are they so furious.

All I want is love,
Thats all I want.
But now these things,
In my face you flaunt.

I guess Ill ask you all again,
Is love unconditional.
Or maybe it is as I feared,
LOVE IS CONDITIONAL.

Hmm...interesting thoughts. You never realize what the definition of love is, until you feel it. But, finding the definition of it is always usually a painful and long process. Very original idea. I like how you connected your life today with your life in the past.
