I Can Remember

by sarah   Nov 5, 2005

I can remember his family and friends
say he cannot die so young, so
interested in trees and stars.
Their word across his mouth obscures and cures his murmuring good bye

He has laid for six weeks
his flesh at a touch bruised
his face pale,

I can remember pain irritating like satin's calling
He Crys but cannot speak to tell us why
His blood drowned the clean white bandages
He does not want to eat, he does not want to spend or share the penny of light birth put in his hand, telling him to hold it tight

Will his family and friends ever understand?

I can remember him sleeping
Rocking the cloud of pain till the kind angel
came with a soft wrap to keep him warm and carry him home, to a dark and heavenly moon.

I can remember the day he was shot
I can remember the day he died
I can remember the tragic incident
That caused all the pain in his body and mine.
