You Brought Me Home

by Lyn   Nov 12, 2005

You are the one, the God of Love,
You cleanse me from all sin and shame.
Before I ever breathed on earth,
You knew me well, you knew my name.
You shone the Light that I should see,
I turned and did not care;
And still you shone the Light for me
So near to satan's lair.

How you must have wept, dear Lord,
It seemed I had to lose,
And still you shone the Light for me,
Asking me to choose.
For I was weak, with blinkered eyes
And only darkness knew.
I could not see for turning shadow
Hid You from my view.

Lord, in patience that's Divine,
You shine Your Light for all,
Somehow it seemed a long, long time,
That I would rather fall.
Then through the love of someone else
I saw Your Spirit shine,
Through someone else's caring
I saw Your love Divine.

And in that moment I could see
My sinful past unfold,
All my sordid history
Too shameful to be told;
There was no other good enough
To take my place and die;
There was no other good enough to live with God on high.

And so Lord Jesus You stepped in
With all God's love and power,
What would I have done Dear Christ
In that most shameful hour,
If You had not held out Your hand
And simply told me "Come",
And welcomed me into the fold,
At last You brought me home.
