Success

by Ladida   Nov 19, 2005

Get good grades, play sports, be beautiful, graduate, go to college.
Be successful
Tell me, what is success?
If not a feeling of accomplishment in your own heart

Since when did success become based on the satisfaction of others?
Since when is my success the same as your success, his success, her success?
Or is it just that success is now suddenly simply seemingly the success of only our superficial, unsatisfiable, sadistic, stationary, stupid society!?

For through these piercing green eyes success seems to scream to be set free
These eyes see success in a single mother who can't pay her bills every month and in a struggling student who tries his best and still only passes one class!
Success!
It screams to me, to my ears, why can't you hear?

Hear...Hear the success in the cry of a miracle meth baby who magically pulled through the withdrawals that his addicted mother carelessly cursed him with

Who the hell defines success?
Don't tell me I'm not successful because I didn't turn that tassel at age 18!
Because at 20 years old I will stand proudly on that stage with a smile from ear to ear, turn my tassel, and success you will hear!!!

Success, not only in the soldier that dies for his country,
But also in the man who stands for believing in not believing in what that soldier died for!

Success is in the souls of the suicide bombers crashing planes into the world trade!
Not because it was right, but because they believed, and stood for something, and died for those beliefs
Mission successful!

We don't believe in anything anymore
Giving our society the right to say what our success should be
And what our success should look like

What is success?
An accomplishment of your own
A belief, the strength to believe

Success is in your heart and in your mind
And in your ability to stand and say I believe
And THIS is my success!

Beautiful poem....very deep. You had me thinking so bad, the flow of the words. I could hear your voice through these lines. Very emotional and inspiring. Keep up the good work.
