2nd grade play

you promised me you were going to come,
knowing it would make me happy
you promised me you were going to come,
not wanting things to get sappy
while up on stage, i was distracted
distracted by wondering thoughts
were you in a hurry to keep your promise?
or were you in a bar, arguing with some cops?
as the curtain dropped,
i made one more quick glance through the crowd
my heart stopped.
i tried so hard not to weep out loud.
ohh you really got me on that one didn't u?
you really had me goin
i actually believed that the promise u made was true
thanks for leaving me all alone
you would think i would know by now, wouldn't you?
this is just a normal thing for me to go through
for some reason, i actually thought you were going to come
instead of just lie about it afterwords
who knows where i got that from?
i hope you enjoyed that buzz u got from all the beers
because while you were drinking, your little girl was on stage,
holding back the tears.
that night, i cried myself to sleep
because of the promise you didn't keep.
