Weight of darkness

by brown eyes and a melancholy smile   Nov 21, 2005

Weight of darkness

Deep within a gloomy heart,
Despair shadows love,
Behind smiling, happy faces,
A grieving soul is hurt.

Behind the jokes, smiles, laughter,
Unmasked sad and ugly,
Lies a bleeding soul, a wounded heart,
A war of the unworthy.

Blades across flesh ease the pain,
If only for the while,
Every-one is fooled by your mask,
They can't see past your smile.

Make-up hides your tear stained face,
Long sleeves cover freshly sliced flesh,
A simple smile hides blinding hate,
Hate only for yourself.

Can you envision this?
The shame and hurt, the tears?
When life is not worth living,
When death is your only cheer?

Can you comprehend this?
Suicide: your only friend?
The only thought that fills your day,
A sweetly-bitter end.

You can't stop slashing yourself,
You're the one to blame,
And you can feel that you're falling,
Just put an end to the pain.

Pain like a thousand knives piercing your heart,
Like every day, yesterday should have been your last.
Singing the same song of regret, hoping death will come at last.
