Oil and Water

by Jayashantha   Nov 23, 2005

Once when I was a kid,
A curious little scientist,
I put some oil,
Into a cup of water,
A simple experiment,
Asked me to do by my science teacher,
And watched to my dismay,
Oil afloat on water.
Oil is lighter than water,
Explained my teacher.

Today I recollect,
That trivial experiment,
While thinking about you and me,
Or the sweet symbiosis 'us',
And ask myself,
Are we like water and oil
Never to be mixed,
Or the earth and the sky,
Never to meet each other.

The comparisions are good, but I'd recommend working on making it sound a bit more poetic.
