To my oldest son~~~

You came into the world fourteen years ago
a cold, dreary day in November
you were my first, such a beautiful boy
the sweetest smile I'd ever remember.

You were such a gentle child at heart
so cool, so calm, so collected
you never cried, you never screamed
you were everything I ever expected.

Then the first day of school came for you
momma's little man had to go to learn
you were always such a brilliant boy
nothing but the highest marks you'd earn.

And now here you are in middle school
so independent, and so very grown
although I ask if you need my help
you'd prefer to do everything on your own.

I've watched you turn into a fine young man
I can't believe you've gotten so old
just remember whatever age you are
you're never too big for me to hold!
