Blue Dress

by KiMMiE*RiE*   Dec 2, 2005

16th birthday party
mothers in the dress
the one she wears for every holiday
and every special event
its blue with a low cut neckline
length to near the knee
a dress I was in love with,
that I*d hope she*d give to me
Graduation day
she sits in the front row
the dress, still perfect
with a newly added bow
lace and patches added
for when the poor seams ripped
once got in the car door
another time she tripped
come home for Christmas dinner
my freshman year at school
again she wears that same dress
new patches, and a faded shade of blue..
My baby girls 5th birthday
mother shows again
beautiful as usual
new patches, lace and trim.
On my mother's death bed
she feebly holds my hand
Whispers, "I Love you, you mean everything to me and, I want your life to be wonderful, live it through and through, take your chances, never say never, Let love come from you"
A few days later
she was buried
short sweet beautiful
nothing was hurried
when we met the lawyer
to read over her will
( thats where i*m at now,
shh he*s talking still)
To John I leave my quilts
To Alice, I leave my books
To David my Wooden Cabinet
as run down as it looks,
Then the lawyer looked at me
a tear set in his eye,
there's one last thing upon this list,
before we say goodbye...
he pulled out an old trunk,
tattered torn a mess
he read "and to my sunshine
I leave my old ..blue..dress...
