Unspoken love (very long)

by StormyWeather   Dec 3, 2005

This aint really a poem but i was sitting at my computer, and this is what i wrote ...

She stood at her locker
Opened it
Took out the red rose that she would later place
On her sisters grave
She held it still for a moment, breathing its scent in
And looked inside her locker door
At the picture of him
The boy that kept her smiling
Day by day
When she felt bad about herself
When she saw the cheerleaders being peppy
And felt like throwing up
When she saw the cuts on the arms of the emo kids
And knew she could never be that way
Especially after her sisters death

She looked at the picture and stared into his paper eyes
Looked at the smile that she would always remember
That smile that people only smile
When theyre with the person they love
She brought her fingers to her mouth and gave the photograph a fleeting butterfly kiss
She turned to see him standing by his locker
She saw Tara Hamilton go up and give him the same kiss
A butterfly kiss
Tears came to her eyes
As her gay best friend joined her by her locker
He put his arm around her shoulder
As she tried to feebly explain that she was only crying
Because she cut her finger on one of the thorns

(Moments before)

He stepped towards his locker
Smiling that special smile
He had been given his moment of clarity
He knew that he could no longer stay with her
While she treated him like she did
And while he could feel himself being drawn like a moth the the light of that girl
Not a moth.
A butterfly.
Like the kisses given and unreturned
Like the clips in that girls hair
He stopped as he saw both the girls in the hall
Felt his breath catch as she took something out of her locker
A token of another guys affection?
He felt his blood turn cold

He looked at the picture of her in his locker
The one where she had the look of love
A sparkle in her eyes
The one that kept him smiling each day
When he saw the couples kissing by the fountain
And knew it would never be him
When he saw the cuts on the arms of the emo kids
And tried to understand
He had to break it off with his girl
She walked over and went to kiss him
He pulled back
Receiving only a tiny butterfly kiss
She looked into his eyes
Giving him a silent apology
He turned to see the girl he loved walk down the hall
With Jamie Goodmans arm around her shoulders
A single tear rolled down his face

(A month later).

The one day they both hated more than any other
The last day of term
They lived nearby
But were never brave enough to say hello
Jamie Goodman walked Alice Spencer to the gate
Where Nathan Blades said goodbye to Tara
The woman he would never kiss again
The four teenagers stood there
Tara was the first to leave
Half crying, at the end of a chapter of her life
Jamie was next
He walked past Nathan
Whispered ten fatal words

Cant you tell a gay man from a straight one?

Nathan and Alice stood there
Staring into each others eyes
Nathan smiled the smile
Alice got a twinkle in her eye
They walked away silently
Their love unspoken
And it was a secret no more
