Grandad Bill

by shona   Dec 6, 2005

I didn't know what to say today
when i found out you was going away
all that time we had in the past
seems to have gone awfully fast

You have been there all my life
even taught me how to peal spuds with a knife

Those strong arms
that held me up when i was down
even acted like a clown
just to see me smile another time

now the time has come
i have to say goodbye
soon all this will be a thing of the past
and i know you will be free from pain at last

you have opened windows
and shown me life
and all this love for you
will burn on bright

I wrote this when i was 13 years old after i found out my granddad had cancer that had come back after going through massive operations to beat it. Then i found out it had spread to far and only had days to live.
