Soldier

by Lenny   Dec 16, 2005

A silent prayer,
For the soldier,
With a salute,
He understands,
A salute to say,
He truly knows,
His purpose,

A pledge of his devotion,
His will to win,
To learn,
To trust,
His proud salute
The gesture
Of his
Eternal faith,

Boldly he flaunts
His undying love
For the unknown greater power
That silently assures him
He needs to carry on

His need to triumph,
And to live another day,
Form a perfect,
Selfless motive,
Through which he musters strength,

And to think
He does it all
With the foreboding
Knowledge of,

His imminent demise,

He is the sacrifice,
The shield against the blade,
Its why he was created,

He has known all along,

And yet he stands before his commander,
Saluting his salute,
Hand poised along his brow,
In a gesture that signs
The unwritten contract
To his surrender,

A silent prayer,
For the soldier,
With a salute,
He understands,
A salute to say,

He truly knows his purpose.
