I couldn't change

by Emily   Dec 21, 2005

I couldn't change his words,
I couldn't stop him speaking,
I couldn't feel my fingers,
I couldn't stop my weeping,
Cancer was all he said,
A thousand words it sounded to me,
I couldn't look at him,
I couldn't make him cry,
I sat there all alone, thought people were all around me,
It didn't matter anymore,
They were all so hopeful and told him what they knew,
They said he would get better,
But secretly I knew,
His eyes told me everything,
His worried eyes gave him away,
He hadn't told us everything,
He knew what his fate was,
So I knew too,
I couldn't change his story,
I couldn't stop his words,
But,
I could read his worried eyes,
They gave me time to say goodbye.

I'm very sorry for your friend, but it's a well written poem very emotional too.
