It's Not For Me

by Poetvoices   Dec 24, 2005

"Why would you do that?" You may ask.
I thought I hid it well behind my mask.
"Do you need help? Can I save you?"
"What has happened to make you so blue?"

They see the scars that are on my wrists.
"See a doctor!" everyone insists.
"I can't understand. Please tell me why."
When I explain, it'll make you cry.

It's not for me. This cut here is for the time
I was caused so much pain by my father's alcoholism--his favorite pastime.
This one next to it was for my mother's dying soul.
With this one, crying was my only goal.

This one almost made me bleed to death.
I only did it to relieve stress--catch a breath.
No one can save me, so don't even try.
Now you stop that. You promised you wouldn't cry.
You got what you wanted. You wanted to know why.
