One step closer

The look in your eyes is haunting
the bruises wont seem to fade
i should have seen it coming
should have felt the fear you made

with your poison in my veins
your kisses burning my skin
i was lead into your trap
into such an unforgiving sin

i tried so hard to scream out
to let them know what you were going to do,
but no one heard my silent cries
and i was left with only you

you made my heart stop beating
my mind began to race
as you pulled my jeans from my legs
with a drunken smile on your face

i didn't think i could fight you off
as tears blurred my eyes
but as my pain rolled down my face
you began to realize

you threatened me not to speak
or tell my friends of what you'd done
that you didn't do anything wrong
or tried to hurt anyone

but i didn't keep it from them
and they gave me what i need
the support to leave you that very night
the strength not to bleed.

but still I'm glad it happened
that you made me cry these tears
because this is what i needed
to be able to feel this fear

to see that i trust some too much
and that i need to respect me
you only put me one step closer
to the person i wish to be.
