One Night

by Ashelin   Jan 3, 2006

The howl of a wolf
A creaking of the willow branch
The shinning of a silver moon
The land around her, covered in fog

The gentle slapping of the lake
A whistle of a depressed wind
The crackling of a fading fire
A young girl, shivering in the night

She was sent out
Into this night
Forced to survive
Until dawns light

The growl of some creature
Right behind her in the wood
The snapping of a small twig
Her heart pounding in her chest

"one night" she told herself
"please, just this night" she pleaded
She closed her eyes tight
Hoping that she was dreaming

She soon fell asleep
Beneath the star light
Then she screamed
Waking for a nightmare fright

The night had fallen
As day light fought it back
Keeping the creatures at bay
As the girl smiled and headed home

She had survived the night
And what a scary night it was
