He Danced With Me

He danced with me tonight
This is the best I've felt in years
Being held in his strong arms
Hushed all my fears.

I was waiting for that moment
For such a long time
I knew he had been with other girls
But for that few minutes he was mine.

I thought that I would never hold him
But now that I did I feel whole
I'm not sure I can need him anymore
Because now I've seen his soul.

You see we only danced as friends
Because he needed to talk to me
Without the other two girls
Looking at him with jealousy.

They knew I wasn't a threat to them
So they let me have a chance
I wanted to be with him forever
But i knew i only had this dance.

He talked about those two girls
The whole time the music was on
He told me he loved them both
And he knew that that was wrong.

He wanted my advice
But I didn't know what to say
He would choose to be with me
If i had it my own way.

But when the music stopped
We slowly split apart
And when he looked into my eyes
He gave me back my heart.

He trusted me with all his secrets
He poured out what he held inside
But by the time I knew the whole truth
I wanted to run and hide.

But at least I had that one dance
Even though it meant nothing
But now I know how he feels about everything
And I can be understanding.
