My Friend

No one knew just what he meant to me and you.
they knew him by name but that was not the same.
his eyes so bright,
his smile so wide.
we always let him know we were right there by his side.
but now that's all changed,
now that he's gone from me and you.
and yes we have a reason to be blue.
but we loved him and he loved us.
and now we must learn not to fuss.
he said good-bye and gave us a kiss.
and all we do is reminisce.
and we'll ask,
why does god take the best to love,
up to that great big world above?
his memory still lives on between you and me.
and we need to remember his gentle smile will always be seen.
never forget him, he wont forget us.
never let him leave your mind.
tell him you love him, just one more time...

***this is a poem about my best friend Jake who died. and at the time Jake was my boyfriend, he died from a brain disease at the age of 11...
