A Winter Morning

by Heather   Jan 23, 2006

I stand all alone in the clearing,
staring up at the sky,
watching as the twinkling stars,
slowly begin to die.

The darkened world, so empty,
not a flicker of light.
Slowly, begins to disappear
before my very eyes.

Suddenly, a ray of sunlight
hits the pure white snow,
as the bright yellow ribbons,
slowly begin to grow.

From the trees tops there comes
a steady, almost inaudible drip,
as the snow above slowly begins
it's unceasing downward trip.

The mountains in the distance
seem to touch the heavens,
their snowy peaks are reaching
to kiss the could streaked sky.

As I walk along the path,
soaking in all the wonder ,
awestruck at all the amazing beauty,
that I see, lying all around me.

I come to the top of "our favorite hill"
staring off across the lake.
everything seems so, so still,
watching the lovely ripples on the water
as each their own
outward course they take.

I remember all the times
we stood here,
watching the sun come up.
How you'd put your arms around me, and would whisper softly in my ear that you loved me.

A smile lights my face
as I reminisce about that day
that we stood here all alone,
how, when you took me in your arms,
I whispered back,
"Please never let me go"
