I needed new shoes. The ones on my feet were tattered and torn. Mom promised new ones.
You said just a couple with the friends.
Four hours later-Sorry I forgot.
Here's to you Dad.

Food in the refrigerator was becoming scarce. We had just enough money to get a meal for tonight.
You said you had enough, just one with the pals.
Four hours later- Went to sleep with hungered stomaches.
Here's to you Dad.

Phone bill was due. No more extensions. They need money today or it would be shut off.
You said that today was tough and just needed two.
Four hours later-Dead end on the phone.
Here's to you Dad

The power company called. Sick of giving us more days. Needed at least $40 by 5:30 or no lights tonight.
You said you had $10 extra dollars.
Four hours later-Sitting by candle lights.
Here's to you Dad

Cloths were becoming holey and too small. $20 each for and outfit held in the hands of dad.
You said so much stress today, just need to relax.
Four hours later-Tomorrow we go to school with ripped cloths and all.
Here's to you dad

Maybe I'll become someone like you.
Kids learn from there parents.

Maybe I'll drink one for you.
!4 years old and tempted to drink.

But your the reason money is scarce.
