100 Yellow Roses

by Always4You   Feb 10, 2006

One hundred yellow roses lie on her grave.
The man who brought them, sat there, holding his head in his hands.
He's only alive because he was saved.
Saved by this girl, with who he fell in love.
He was going to kill himself; everything was going as planned.
They met on a bridge when it was snowing real hard.
He was going to kill himself, she was walking her St. Bernard.
She said hello, he said it back.
Underneath them, you could hear the ice crack.
She looked at him with concern on her face.
He was astonished and taken aback.
This girl was full of beauty and grace.
"What are you doing out here? Arn't you cold?"
After those words, their lives began to unfold.
Over the next few years, they fell even more in love.
Having a girl like her was undreamed of.
They married and never left each other's side.
Until that dreadful day; the day that she died.
She was driving home from work that day.
The snow was falling hard, the sky was a dark grey.
She had to cross the bridge in this nasty weather.
It was covered in ice.
From that day on, they would never be together.
She drove off the bridge into the icy water.
She drowned, along with their unborn daughter.
The next day, her death was all over the news.
Not being able to forget her memory, he tried to erase it by turning to booze.
He got so drunk one day that he tried to jump like he had before.
He didn't want to live without her anymore.
Then the thought hit him.
His eyes brimmed with tears.
This Godsent angel, took away his pain and fears.
That day on the bridge, he was ready to end his life.
But instead, this girl made him stop in his tracks.
He fell in love with an angel and made her his wife.
God sent her that day to keep him alive.
His life was turned into something worth having and he wouldn't have had the chance if he had made that life-taking dive.
So now, as he sits there with his head in his hands.
He realizes that this is how God had it planned.
He touches her grave and says a few words.
He chokes back his tears, his vision is blurred.
"I love you so much. You've touched my life and made it worth living."
He stood, wiped his eyes, and say goodbye.
He walked away as snow fell from the sky.

It gave me shivers, really a touching poem. It has a great message that stands out clear, and the rhyme scheme, although somewhat choppy, made it close to a perfect poem. Amazing job.
