Baggy Soul

by AmbientBlack   Feb 11, 2006

Baggy soul with old tired eyes
miles of clouds, miles of skies
headlights, sirens,
black alley rain
my city doesn't pity a vagabonds pain
I could be young I could be graceful
I could be spent so distasteful
I could be gone but i'm still here
I represent your immortal fear
I represent an impoverished host
and kneel and pray for crumbs of toast
live your lives I pay no attention
I have no belongings, too few to mention
I have no place to call my own
pigeons and rats and I alone
smile at me i'm not sad,
no no no,
see how glad?
i'm really not sad.
don't need the roof
i've never had.
A baggy old soul,
with a brown paper sack
I'll snuggle up close
to a railroad track
and early in the morning
when you're all warm and fed
i'll pull out my pocket
that hard crust of bread
gnawing in my stomach
wont hurt me today
or "must be a drunk"
i'll hear people say
Lazy, on drugs, must have done something wrong
look at him kids but don't look at him long
they could never see my blue moistured eyes
baggy old soul's beneath miles of skies
the morning sun rises on the city that sleeps
and baggy old soul, does a dance then weeps
Oh, I love the cold snow how I wish I could stay
but the angels came and carried this baggy soul away
